Better known as CLINT, or as my Daughter-in-Law Paula named him CLINT MATTHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!, has left us today(Tues 31-May-2011). Clint was 14.5 years old and a true Irish Gentleman. Never a kennel dog, he wormed his way into all of our hearts, and when the litter left our kitchen, Clint just said he was " ready to be the star " and that he was!

Clint was a cover dog on Purina's Breeder Magazine plus an appearance on Midwest Outdoors to do a demonstration that many of you have seen. He was a handsome guy, with great manners and a wonderful disposition. He always understood what you were saying to him.

He pointed his 1st bird and just about everyone after that. I can remember showing him off to some folks in Nebraska. A friend of ours asked to see how we trained a dog to point, I took a 7 month old Clint out to the field we were working through. I had a bag with 2 pigeons, 2 chukar and my shotgun. Cutting this totally green pup loose, he worked the field near me and I threw a pigeon right in front of him and off we were to the races. He came back after a good chase and I threw the 2nd pigeon - same thing - off to the races. While he was busy chasing, I put the 2 chukar out about 50 yards apart. He came back and crossed the scent cone and slammed into a solid, very stylish point. I waited and waited for him to bust the birds, but he just stayed locked up. Finally, I went in and flushed the bird. He immediately chased and I pulled up and seeing the intensity of his chase, I felt it as safe to shoot the bird. Clint ran to the dead bird, picked it up, and started back to me. He got halfway back, stopped, and pointed with the dead bird in his mouth. I came up and flushed the bird. Clint came to me, handed me the bird, and was off on the chase for the one that got away. He caught up with it somewhere and brought the still live bird back to me. These friends thought that all dogs came with those kinda tools.

I could go on forever with more Clint stories, but I'll let you folks send me any Clint stories to add to our web page blog.

MAY THE SHAMROCKS FALL SOFTLY,

You will be missed and Brophy's Irish Setters will always be a better place because you were here helping us !!!
